New Year New Mindset – My Battle Is My Bread

01.08.2017 by KG_oul // 6 Comments

A few days ago the church that I’ve been going to, First Baptist Church of Glenarden in Maryland, had a New Years Revival 2017 event. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to see Marvin Sapp and Priscilla Shirer speak but I was able to see T.D. Jakes speak in person.

T.D. Jakes spoke from the book of Numbers 14:1-9 KJV and broke it down in a way that allows us to apply the words from this scripture to our everyday lives. I am going to go over the background of this scripture then list all the memorable lessons I received from T.D. Jakes’ sermon.

Devotional 2 – Genesis 3-10 True Freedom

After reading these scriptures over and over again, the common theme that sticks out to me is the destructiveness of sin and the way God handles it.  These scriptures reminded me of the separation and how sin keeps me from doing the will of the Lord.  The enemy uses various techniques to pull us into sinful nature, but we have the ability to resist the sin.  There is hope!

Devotional 1 – Genesis 1-2 God Established All of Our Needs

06.01.2016 by KG_oul // Leave a Comment

Good morning everyone! I made it a goal to post our first devotional today. I was procrastinating posting this because I really wanted to start where I last stopped reading the Bible, The book of Numbers, but then decided to recommit to starting from the beginning at Genesis.

Today I read Genesis 1-2 and this is what I received from it:
1. God created the heavens and the earth. The heaven was created on the same day as the earth. I always thought heaven was infinite and existed before earth. I just think the timing of the creation of heaven is phenomenal and shouldn’t be overlooked.

2. On Day 6 when God created man and woman, I thought “God always saves the best for last!” Then I realized, whether that statement is true or not, whats more important is God builds what is needed from the foundation up. He provided humans what they needed to survive before he even created them. Heaven, earth, stars, moon, sun, land, water, food… Relating and applying this to our lives today, makes me realize that God has already given us what we need to live our life purpose before we were even born. Look at it this way, we all think Adam needed Eve but what if all Adam needed was respect (dominion over animals) and the necessities of life (God and everything created before him). (I’m pretty sure Adam and Eve both needed each other but bare with me. I’m going somewhere with this) However, when God’s purpose was to multiply the Earth, to really do that Eve, the woman who would be playing the most important role of carrying out that purpose, had to be created. Her body is fragile during the process but needed when it comes to the delivery of a child. Also, the women needs not only nutrition and sex but the love of a man to be in the right mental state which effects her physical state when having a healthy child. If Eve isn’t cared for properly during and after child birth it effects the offspring. This is where I believe the saying “If mom ain’t happy nobody is” holds true. Everything that was created up to day 6, including Adam, was needed by Eve in order for her to carry out God’s purpose of multiplying the earth at that time. Another food for thought.

3. Lastly, chapter 2 verses 5-6 talks about how there was no grass, shrubs, plants were on the earth and God had not “sent rain on the earth and there was no one to work the ground, but streams came up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground. Then the Lord formed man.” We as humans are so used to it raining that if anything else happened to bring water to vegetation, we would freak out or it would go on the news today as a flood or tsunami depending on how bad the situation. The thing I find interesting here is that instead of using rain God uses underground streams. This isn’t a big deal to anyone at the time because humans weren’t created yet to see the decision that was made in this regard to amp it up as something miraculous or unorthodox. There are many times today where we forget that God knows a trillion times more than we could ever know and may choose to solve a situation using underground springs to fill our cup with living water while we are looking to the sky for rain to fill it.
